As a result of being the state religion of the Vijayanagara Empire, Hinduism impacted the social activities of the empire such that they adopted the Caste System.

The Vijayanagara Empire  was predominantly Hindu empire that tried to stem the spread of Islam into the Indian subcontinent by fighting against the various Muslim dynasties.

As a result of being a Hindu empire, the caste system was practiced which grouped people into 5 groups which were:

  • Brahmins - the highest group which had Priests
  • Kshatriyas - second group which has Kings and Warriors
  • Vaishya - third group which had merchants
  • Sudra - fourth group which had the commoners
  • Untouchables (Dalit) - these were considered outcasts

In conclusion, because of Hinduism, the caste system was practiced by the Vijayanagara Empire  which was based in Southeast Asia.
