meiosis is a special type of cell division of germ cells used to produce gametes like sperm or eggs cells in sexually reproducing organism.
For an organism to grow and function properly, cells must constantly divide to produce new cells to replace old, worn-out cells.
It ensures that all organisms produced via sexual reproduction contain the correct number of chromosomes.
Because without the correct number of chromosomes in sexual reproduction ,the union of two gametes during fertilization would result in offspring with twice the normal number of chromosomes. And with the correct number of chromosomes, meiosis creates cells that are destined to become gametes which reducts for chromosomes to be critical.
So, meiosis is a prerequisite to sexual reproduction
