Explain these 3 quotes from ‘The Outsiders.’

1.) “I listened to his heart pounding through his T-shirt and knew everything was going to be okay now. I had taken the long way around, but I was finally home. To stay.” (Page 69)

2.) “And don’t be so bugged over being a greaser. You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want.” (Page 179)

3.) “Two friends of mine had died that night: one a hero, the other a hoodlum.” (Page 154)

1. This states that even through the bad times, the character trusts that everything will be ok because s/he has trust in the heartbeat of the other character. This is an example of trust in others.

2. This quote shows that even if you have a rough past, or grew up poor, you can still be something. This is shown throughout the story when Ponyboy uses his smarts and stands out from the other greasers because he likes to read, write, and go to school.

3. This quote is saying that you shouldn't take your life for granted. The character saying this is both pitiful and regretful about their friend's deaths.

2) Ponyboy has a lot of years left, he has lots of time to become who he wants to be. (i believe that’s who they were referring to.)

3) Johnny died after saving kids from the burning church making him the hero. Dally died after robbing a comic book store.
