According to Ellemers et al. (1997) and Moscatelli et al. (2014), we are more prone to ingroup bias when our group is small and differ in status relative to the outgroup.
In-group Bias can be defined as the likelihood that people will tend to treat people that they in the same group better than those that they are not in the same group with.
Which is why both Ellemers et al. and Moscatelli et al states that people are more prone to ingroup bias when the group they are differ in status.
